As people become more concerned about how their habits affect others and the environment, they look for ways to spend more responsibly. One way to do this — a way that has been gaining in popularity — is through the use of affinity credit cards.
What are affinity credit cards?
Affinity credit cards are those that give a portion of your purchases to other organizations. Some go to specific causes (such as the World Wildlife Fund card). Others allow you to choose a charity, from a local charity to helping feed those in third world countries.
Things to watch out for with affinity credit cards
It is important to note that some cards don’t put a whole lot into the causes they "support." Others cancel out the good effects by supporting destructive practices with their investments and the companies they fund. Also, note that interest fees on many affinity credit cards are actually a little higher than others.
Carefully research you card before making a decision. You (and your chosen cause) may actually better off if you donate your own money (and you can take the tax break).
