I first saw mention of this a few hours ago by Tricia Despres and it spurred me to do some research. Apparently Linkserv has created a way to target golfers with local advertising via a state-of-the-art GPS golf aid.
From LinkServ’s own data you can see why golfers, as a demographic, are so sought after:
* Average annual income: $95,000
* Business owner: 24 percent
* Executive or upper management: 93 percent
* 4-year college degree or higher: 94 percent
* Average portfolio value: $850,000
And, remember, these are the ‘average’ stats for a golfer. Local advertising on these GPS screens has great potential.
The GPS unit is attached to the cart. Advertisers have the option of a full screen ad or a 9-hole banner ad. If the full screen option is chosen, it only appears as the cart is nearing the green as the distance info is less necessary at this point.
The ads are approximately 5 minutes in length and they end at the next tee box. The 9-hole ads run throughout 9-holes of golf, obviously. LinkServ estimates the ads run about 300K times.
