As you know, I often write about the many hats that working mothers wear and what we can try to do to keep our sanity as we rush from job to job.
Last week I received an email from a reader who discussed the many hats of office managers. Think about the office managers that you know. They take care of complaints, accounts payable, distributing checks, paperwork, dealing with irate customers or clients, cleaning out the refrigerator and making coffee. They answer the phones. Type letters. Handle work social events. Contact customers with bad news. All of this in the course of one day.
Staples has launched a website, www.staples.com/myrealjob, that focuses on these hard working ladies. Through March 16 the website allows office managers to submit descriptions of and anecdotes about their jobs. A calculator computes what the office manager should earn based on all of her duties, and office managers can enter to win prizes, including a trip for two to Aruba.
At the end of this initiative, Staples will release the roles of the office managers and suggest an adjusted salary based on all of the work that they do.
I´m posting this now so that office managers who read this article can check out the site (and hopefully one of you will win a great trip to Aruba!) I´ll follow up and let you know what salary Staples find should be the norm for an office manager.
