And so it begins…
The inauguration yesterday was unlike any other in recent history. An outpouring of support. A cry for change. A feeling of optimism we haven’t seen in the past few years. Really? Absolutely!
Just a sampling of the headlines this morning says a couple things: 1. this administration is getting down to business immediately and 2. the media is already questioning the positivity generated and whether the new administration can actually buoy American confidence.
THE REAL WORLD RETAILING TAKEAWAY
Headlines for today aside, can we overcome the media’s drive to tear us down?
Already this morning on the various news networks, republican pundits are talking down the new president.
Already this morning, the media continues to pound on the new administration’s tough road.
Already this morning, according to the media, “the party’s over.”
We need optimism. We need hope. We need to feel as Americans and as consumers that things will get better.
No one’s expecting a miracle today, next week, or even next month. We all know what we’re in for. And we know there are going to be more bailouts. More bankruptcies. More store closings. More debt. More foreclosures. No need to pound it into our heads further.
Media — you have such an important role in shaping the consumer mindset. Given that, we’re looking to you to help Americans feel positive about what’s happening. We’re looking to you to start reporting more positive news so we can work toward pulling ourselves out of this mess we’re in.
We believe it can happen. Can you believe too?
