It isn’t an exaggeration to say that millions of pages of print and countless blog posts have been dedicated to what traits it takes to be an entrepreneur. Frequent favorite are “passion” and “initiative”. Some say you have to have “determination”, or “persistence”. And then there are “enthusiasm” and “vision”.
I can’t disagree with any of these. But I’d like to advance one more trait for the list: “Decisiveness”. A person who get things done is one who doesn’t hesitate when decisions need to be made, and entrepreneurship demands that you get things done.
Are you a procrastinator? Do you put off taking care of unpleasant things? Do you put off making decisions? Entrepreneurship is not for you.
Do you make quick assessments of key factors in an issue that requires a decision? Do you get done the mundane tasks so you have time for the interesting stuff? You probably have what it takes to be an entrepreneur.
Some people say you need to take time, do analysis, make sure your decision is right before you move forward, but this is not the case. Very few decisions are so critical they need that much thought. Not every decision you make will be a right one, but the more decisions you make, the more right ones you will make.
