Last week an unlikely celebrity died.
Steve Irwin, the "crocodile guy" became famous for his work with crocodiles. Of course, a lot of people have worked with "crocs" and other dangerous wild animals so, it wasn’t his work that made Irwin famous.
It was how he did his work.
He made it fun.
When you watched him work, his enthusiasm was infectious. Clearly he loved what he did.
But he did more than that. He drew people into his work with his energy, his passion and his zest for his work.
It was hard to not get excited with him while you watched him do his thing.
Of course, most of us can’t claim our work is exciting as feeding crocodiles. I’m not sure I’d want to!
But that doesn’t mean we can’t or shouldn’t have passion for what we do.
And we should have that passion everyday, like Steve Irwin did.
I’m not saying we have to jump around and yell "crikey" a a lot like Irwin was well-known for. We all have our own ways of expressing our passion.
The key is that we need to be passionate about what we do. We need to enjoy what we do every day. We need to believe what we do is important to people. We need to believe the world is a better place when we’re successful.
If you have trouble believing that about your job or your business then you need to make a change.
Change your job or your business.
Or change how you feel about it.
Find ways to bring passion and energy and pure, unadulterated fun to your work every day.
Do this and your customers will notice. More of them will want to do business with you. And they’ll tell others too.
People like being around people who are having fun.
You may not get as famous as Steve Irwin but that’s okay. Just enjoy your work, your colleagues and your customers every day. Your reward will be a job or a business that is fun and profitable and that you love to do every day.
