So here we are, the day before Labor Day weekend. The phones are quiet (which worries my entrepreneurial spirit), and I’m attempting to persuade myself that today is a good day to review my business plan’s mission statement.
There’s something a tad, well, overly earnest about the way in which many business folks regard their mission statement. “Credo and philosophy,” for example, is the pompous description on many a business plan’s preface to the mission statement. “Well, lah-de-dah,” as Annie Hall would say.
Two words of advice on this section: be specific. I like the National Weather Service‘s version:
The National Weather Service (NWS) provides weather, hydrologic, and climate forecasts and warnings for the United States, its territories, adjacent waters and ocean areas, for the protection of life and property and the enhancement of the national economy. NWS data and products form a national information database and infrastructure which can be used by other governmental agencies, the private sector, the public, and the global community
