We’ll be talking about this topic on the Monday Sales Inspiration call at 8AM PT/11AM ET – please join in if you can. (note: I’m on the road and going from one time zone to another but plan to be “on time”.
Summer and vacations are around the corner. How to keep motivated as an entrepreneur or sales exec? Here are 3 ways:
1. Count out how many business days you will have in June, July, and August. Subtract any long weekends, holidays, vacation, or other time off. By getting “real” with what you have to work with, you can really help yourself to focus. As weather is nicer and friends or relatives head to your town – respect your work schedule rather than whittling away the hours, telling yourself you’ll make that time up later. It won’t happen.
2. Dive in earlier. Start early, finish up a bit earlier in the day. Work a 4/10 (four days, ten hours) if that helps you to enjoy the weather and still get the needed work accomplished.
3. As always, set activity goals, not just revenue goals. While a “total sales” number can motivate many – it is the activity goals – realistic as well as some good stretch goals – that help pave the way to those total sales numbers. Be diligent about accomplishing the activity needed to get to your sales numbers.
4. Added bonus: Take a look at fellow All Business blogger Liz Ryan’s post Summer Networking Boost. I love Liz’ suggestion to make ten appointments with ten individuals – one per week. The twist i would add is that they be potential alliance or referral partners – you offer clarity on what you do and how you are helping clients, and let them do the same so that both of you walk away able to send lots of referral business each others’ way.
You need not suffer by ignoring nicer weather and friends coming by, and you can still plan a great work schedule that allows for some “flex” time this summer. Track and measure – using honesty as the rule.
