As someone who focuses on business-to-business selling, I don’t comment much about retail sales or direct selling to consumers. But I was taken aback when I read about Anne Newbury, who has been a Mary Kay representative for the past 37 years.
She’s being honored at the big Mary Kay “hoo ha” annual convention today as being the first Mary Kay independent National Sales Director earning more than $1 million in commissions in a single year. That really is mind boggling to me – although I know that there were many many people working under her who made that happen. After all, they are awarding over 1,100 pink Cadillacs today to their top sellers!
Anne has over $13M in career earnings with Mary Kay Cosmetics. Again, staggering to me. I look forward to interviewing Anne on to what she attributes her success. Stay tuned.
It’s interesting to me to see how one can work within the confines of their niche, products, and system to really maximize results. There is also a great lesson in the format that Mary Kay Cosmetics has come up with to honor top salespeople at an annual event – with fanfare and enough inspiration to last another year. These are the stories to learn from, and find ideas you can apply to your own business – even if driving a pink flashy car turns you off!
