I ran across this story in the news from Holland Michigan. 11 year old entrepreneur, Clif Reed, was repairing bicycles and reselling them from his yard. But that drew the ire of the neighborhood and alas.. the long arm of the city law is stepping in. They aren’t forcing him out of business. But they are forcing him to purchase what is called a “Home-Based Business License” in this Michigan city.
I blogged the other day about the need, when setting up a home-based business, to make sure that your business activities don’t upset the neighbors. No doubt this young entrepreneur didn’t think about that. But I admire this young man’s spririt and I’m sure that entrepreneurial spirit will help him along. This might at least teach him that setbacks are part of any business.
