AllBusiness is all about business, of course.
But sometimes the best way to help your business is stop working – and go on vacation.
I thought about this over the weekend, because my family is pulling out of town today to go on our annual camping trip to Yosemite. And every year when we do this – and I wrap up work, pack up the kids, and distribute the animals to various boarding facilities – there’s a not-so-small part of me that asks, “is it worth it?”
It turns out it is. In fact, there are 10 really good reasons to go on vacation.
Here’s the first five.
1 – According to a study at State University of New York at Oswego, men who take vacations every year reduce their overall risk of death by 20 percent.
2- That same study showed they reduce their risk of death from heart disease by 30 percent.
3-Another study – this one by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health– found that women who take at least two vacations a year are less likely to be tense, depressed, or suffer marital dissatisfaction.
4 – The Framingham Heart Study found that women who took a vacation only once every six years (!) were eight times more likely to develop heart disease or have a heart attack than those who took at least two vacations a year.
4-After only two or three days of vacation, researchers have found, study subjects sleep longer and more deeply.
5 – Those same studies found that the extra sleep improved peoples’ reaction times by a whopping 80-percent!
