9. Be Proactive
Don't depend on the employer to take action. Make sure you have the correct name and contact information of anyone you talk to. Request an interview, and follow up in whatever ways are appropriate.
You can demonstrate that you are proactive every step of the way, and that is a quality that all employees are on the lookout for.
