ANA Recommends Nuclear Budget Cuts in New Report.

The Alliance for Nuclear Accountability (ANA) recently released a new report, titled "Top Ten Department of Energy Radioactive Pork Projects in the 2006 Budget," which details nearly $2 billion dollars in programs that its authors recommend be cut by budget conferees.

The DOE proposals

targeted for elimination include seven nuclear weapons projects, as well as a $338- million effort to manufacture nuclear reactor fuel from plutonium; the $651-million Yucca Mountain radioactive waste dump project; and $191 in subsidies underwriting expansion of the nuclear power industry, transportation of its radioactive wastes and extraction of plutonium from used fuel rods.
