FOREIGN TOURISTS WORRIED ABOUT SECURITY IN INDONESIA.

Many countries still see Indonesia as a country not safe for foreign visitors with reports of bombings, conflicts and armed clashes with rebels or separatists. As a result the number of foreign visitors to the country shrank by 10.8% to 294,487 in February from 330,094 in January 2001.

The number was feared to continue to decline in the following months especially after the bloody communal conflict in Sampit and Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan. The condition was worse with the threat aired by the belligerent supporters of the embattled President Abdurrachman Wahid. <
