San Francisco Marriott appoints new general manager; San Francisco native Hank Biddle promoted...

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 14, 1994--A San Francisco native has been appointed the new general manager of the San Francisco Marriott.

Hank Biddle, 41, was named general manager on Nov. 1, 1994. Biddle has been the director of operations at the San Francisco Marriott since

1992. Prior to that Biddle served as general manager at the Dallas Mandalay Marriott.

As general manager, Biddle oversees strategic and daily operations of the 1,500 room hotel. This includes financial performance, hotel policies, community involvement and associate/management relations.

"It is an incredible opportunity to be the general manager at such a significant hotel in the city in which I was born," said Biddle. "It's a dream come true both in the sense of my new responsibility for the hotel and because I'll be participating in the vibrant hospitality community in San Francisco."

The previous general manager, Alain Piallat, was recently promoted to the newly created position of vice president, market management, responsible for Northern California Marriott lodging products. San Francisco was selected as the second test market -- following Atlanta -- for a new Marriott concept called "market management."

Biddle was born at Children's Hospital, now California Pacific Medical Center, and graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa with a degree in business and minor in marketing. He has been working for Marriott Hotels, Resorts & Suites for 19 years. After graduating from Drake, Biddle took his first job with Marriott as a sales manager at Marriott's Lincolnshire Resort in Illinois.

Biddle, his wife Gail, and their two children Christie and Clint reside in Mill Valley.

The San Francisco Marriott, located at Fourth and Mission streets, opened in 1989. The hotel has won major national awards for its service, including the AAA Four Diamond Award, Three Star Rating from Mobil Travel Guide, Corporate and Incentive Travel Award of Excellence, Successful Meetings Pinnacle Award, the Gold Key Award and Association Meetings Magazine Inner Circle Award.
