TOURISM GROWTH. Belize on Feb. 12 reported a 2.6% increase in visitors for 2007 at their main point of entry, the Philip Goldson International Airport. Belize welcomed 151,616 US visitors in 2007, up 72.3% from 1998 when only 87,991 Americans visited Belize. Arrivals from Canada grew by 6.7% for

2006. European visitors increased by 31.2% over the last nine years, an average annual increase of 3.5% per year, said Tourism Director, Tracy Panton. Employment in the hotel sector rose 12% from 2006. Hotel revenues for 2007 rose 13.8%. Official cruise figures for 2007 are recorded at 624,528 passengers aboard 278 cruise ship calls, a 12% decrease in passenger arrivals, a direct result of Hurricanes Dean and Felix.
