Richmond assumes management of Suffolk facility.

Richmond Cold Storage Co. (RCS), Richmond, Va., and Suffolk Cold Storage, Suffolk, Va., said RCS assumed the management and operation of the Suffolk Cold Storage facility located in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia.

The Suffolk Cold Storage facility will serve as RCS' second

temperature-controlled Port warehouse, said the companies. The facility is located close to the new APM Terminal, as well as the Portsmouth Marine Terminal, and is equipped to support importers and exporters of perishable products. Kip Hinkle, president of the Virginia Maritime Association, said the facility and location have the potential to accommodate the future growth of refrigerated cargo within the area.

The Suffolk Cold Storage facility has 160,000 sq. ft. of freezer and convertible warehouse space and also provides drayage and other transportation services. It is equipped with blast-freezing capabilities and is USDA-approved and Russian certified for poultry and pork, the companies said. In addition, the facility offers labeling and stamping of products for export and distribution programs for domestic temperature-controlled products.
