Weather and technical delays have stalled the timeline for floating a new, 365-foot-long span for the Sauvie Island Bridge down the Willamette River and Multnomah Channel.
The 1,600-ton steel arch was loaded onto a barge earlier this month at the Port of Portland's Terminal 2, where the
Plans called for the barge to begin the two-mile trek down the river last week. Instead, the barge will travel the river and be installed the week of Dec. 17.
Max J. Kuney Company is the general contractor on the $38 million project for the Multnomah County that is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2008.
