$172 Million In NHDOT Work

Projects worth an estimated $172 million are expected to be advertised during fiscal year 2004, according to New Hampshire's Department of Transportation.

The department, which is headed by Commissioner Carol Murray, recently released a list of 111 transportation projects planned for construction

this coming year.

NHDOT's largest single project is Phase 1 of the Spaulding Turnpike construction of Exit 11 and 12 (NH 125) bridges and second barrel in Rochester, at an estimated cost of $12.6 million. Another major project is the widening of Granite Street in Manchester, estimated at $12.1 million.

Other significant jobs include the NH111 bypass in Windham/Salem advertised at $9.6 million, and construction and road improvements on US 302 and NH 16 in Conway at a total of $8.2 million.

In addition, road work is expected on I-293 in Manchester, NH 9 and 10 in Keene/Swanzey; and NH 101 in Bedford.

Also to be advertised are 13 bridge rehabilitation projects worth an estimated $17.8 million, while resurfacing in each of the state's six DOT districts accounts for $9.2 million.

There will also be a number of intersection improvements and signal upgrades, expected to total $8.2 million. And pedestrians and bikers will enjoy the benefits of 27 improvement projects totaling $7.1 million.
