The University of California, Santa Cruz and Zipcar, an on-campus car-sharing service, have joined to provide Zipcars to UC Santa Cruz campus faculty, staff, students and community residents. The program is designed as an environmentally friendly alternative to the cost and hassles of keeping a car

on campus. Each Zipcar typically replaces up to 20 personally owned vehicles, reducing the need for parking spaces and replacing older vehicles with new cars that have stringent pollution controls, including hybrids such as the Toyota Prius.
