Washington metropolitan area transit authority. (World Market).

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has awarded Alstom a $US 329 million contract to modernise 364 passenger cars during the next four years. Alstom will install Onix 2000 ac traction drives and an advanced cab signalling system, as well as carry out measures to reduce energy consumption and maintenance on the series B2000/3000 cars. The first refurbished cars will be delivered in August 2002 and the final cars are scheduled to arrive in June 2005.
