Feb. 23--NEW DELHI -- A price war in the domestic aviation sector has cast its spell on the Rail Budget '06-07. Railway minister Lalu Prasad may announce slashing of upper class fares in the Budget on Friday.
The fare cut is expected to be 'significant' to win back passengers from the low-cost air carriers.
"Unlike the populist move in the previous Rail Budget -- when Mr Prasad announced a symbolic reduction of Re 1 in rail fare -- his speech on Friday may reveal a sustainable commercial strategy," a government source said
