Lufthansa Airlines replaced its centralized mainframe environment with distributed databases in an effort to disseminate data more efficiently and constantly update information. The airline developed the Lufthansa Integrated Dispatch System, or Lido, to schedule flights under any circumstances, taking into account a range of variables.
