Airlines define multi-mode receiver

The Airlines Electronic Engineering Committee (AEEC) aims to have a specification for the proposed Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR) adopted at its general session in October 1995, says Andrew Shand, the chairman of the MMR sub-committee and senior development engineer Boeing 737/777 avionics with British Airways.

Work on the MMR - designed to integrate ILS, MLS and GPS capability into one unit - started in January, he says, and the AEEC now has a 'fairly mature draft characteristic of the device.' The MMR will be retrofittable
