easyJet to buys GB Airways, British Airways ends franchise.

easyJet, the UK-based budget airline, has said that it has made an agreement to acquire GB Airways.

easyJet also said that it will pay GBP103.5m in cash for the competitor and the purchase excludes GB Airways'

take-off and landing slots at London's Heathrow Airport. GB Airways mainly operates services from London's Gatwick airport to destinations in southern Europe and North Africa. It fleet consists of 15 Airbus aircraft, Reuters reported.

Separately, British Airways said today (25 October) that it plans to end its UK franchise agreement with GB Airways from March 2008. British Airways also said it plans to launch services on some of the routes operated under the franchise.
