PACCAR introduces diesel-electric hybrid vehicle.
Heavy-duty truck manufacturer PACCAR unveiled its new light-duty diesel-electric hybrid vehicle, the Model LE, at the Commercial Vehicle Exhibition in Hannover, Germany, last month. PACCAR manufactures heavy-duty trucks sold around the world under the Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF nameplates.
The vehicle features a lithium ion battery pack, electric motor generator, and PACCAR 4.5-liter diesel engine.
"Production is scheduled for 2008 and will be targeted at selected urban applications," said Ron Borsboom, DAF chief engineer. "Fuel economy improvement of 30% is the goal."
