SK Corp. hybrid-car battery intended to compete against Japanese batteries.
SK Corp., South Korea's biggest oil refiner, said this week it successfully tested an SK-developed rechargeable battery that will be fitted into its next-generation hybrid vehicles.
The battery has 10% higher energy efficiency than conventional batteries. SK plans to commercialize it within two or three years while pushing for cooperation with more than 10 research institutions in the US and abroad to improve its function.
According to Park Sang-hoon, SK Corp. Technology Development Center head, the battery will pave the way for Korean companies to compete against Japanese producers, who have been dominating the global hybrid-car battery market.
