The 110 ft x 36 ft Z-drive oceangoing line-haul tug Pacific Titan recently entered service for Western Towboat Co., Inc., Seattle. It is being used to tow a 10,000 long ton displacement cargo barge between Seattle and ports in southeast Alaska.

Built by Western Towboat, the 4,520 bhp tug is a sister vessel to the Western Titan, which entered service in 1997. A new design feature of the Pacific Titan is Centa carbon fiber shafts and couplings.

Propulsion power is supplied by two Cat 351 6B marine diesel engines, each rated 2,260 bhp at 1,600 rev/mm. The electronically controlled Cat engines drive Ulstein Z-drives with Nautican propellers and nozzles.
