ABB announces more Azipod orders.
Contracts worth some $80 million to supply Azipod propulsion, electrical power, distribution, and automation systems for five vessel newbuildings have been signed by ABB. The ships are being built for Royal Caribbean International, Sinorail Bohai Train Ferry Co. in China, MMC Norilsk Nickel in Russia and Carnival Corporation.

The Royal Caribbean order is for its second Ultra Voyager, to be built at Kvaerner MasaYards for delivery in spring 2007.
The ABB delivery includes the supply of three, 14 MW cycloconverter-controlled Azipod propulsion units, one fixed midships and two steerable. In addition to the three Azipod propulsion units the ABB power plant consists of 6 main generators, 17.6 MVA (12.3 MW) each, 11 kV main switchboard, 4 bow thruster motors, 3.4 MW each, and 18 transformers.
The two train ferries for Sinorail Bohai Train Ferry will be built at Tianjin Xingang Shipyard in China for delivery in June and December 2006.
They will be the first train ferries operating in Bohai Bay and will shorten the length of the journey between the cities Yantai and Dalian by 1000 km.
The ABB deliveries will include medium voltage power plant with 4 generators and PWM-DTC frequency converter controlled Compact Azipod units rated at 4,088 kW each.
The Arctic container vessel for Norilsk Nickel will be built by Kvacrner Masa Yards in Finland. It will be equipped with one 13,000 kW Azipod Propulsion unit, medium voltage power generation and distribution systems. It will be delivered in early 2006.
The new cruise vessel for Carnival Corporation will be equipped with two 17,600 kW Azipod units and medium-volt-age power systems. It will be built by Fincantieri.
