Tampa Hosting Big Conventions

Tampa this year will hold four of its biggest conventions in recent years, including the biggest ever in its history. That event, the 20,000-attendee Shriners of North America Imperial Council, will take place July 2-6.

The 5,000-attendee Teachers of English to Speakers

of Other Languages Convention and Exhibit was scheduled to take place March 15-19. SC06, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Computer Society's annual conference on super-computing, is expected to draw 2,500 attendees Nov. 11-17. And Deere & Company will hold its 2,500-head Annual Aftermarket Meeting in the city.

The Tampa Convention Center also picked up a number of major conventions displaced from New Orleans, including the annual Tour & Cruise TravelWorld that was expected to draw 1,000 travel-agent attendees March 24-26. The Tampa Bay CVB expected that this influential exhibition would be of great impact to the city.
