New CVB Chief: Stephen Goodling became the new president and CEO of the Long Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau May 29, replacing Linda Howell DiMario, who retired in April. Goodling has more than 20 years' experience in hotel sales and marketing, most recently serving as North American director

of marketing and sales for Shangri-la Hotels & Resorts.

Boutique Hotel To Open: The 162-room Hotel D'Orsay is scheduled to open late next year in downtown Long Beach within walking distance of the convention center and adjacent to a new retail complex. The all-suite luxury property, designed in Art Deco style, will be affiliated with Preferred Hotels and Resorts Worldwide and include a 36,000-square-foot spa and wellness center, fine dining restaurant, and six conference rooms. Accommodations will include 98 junior suites, 50 one-bedroom suites and 14 two-bedroom suites.

Queensway Bay Under Way: After some delay, the Queensway Bay project, a $100 million retail, dining and entertainment complex in downtown Long Beach, is under construction and set for a summer 2002 opening. The complex is to include a 15-screen movie theater, a 410-seat IMAX theater and such stores as Cost Plus World Market and Barnes & Noble. Restaurants will include California Pizza Kitchen, McCormick & Schmick's, National Sports Grill, and Bubba Gump's Shrimp Company.
