Imports of paint and printing ink by India have been fluctuating during the past twelve months. Deliveries of oil paints were lower but there was a useful increase in sales of printing ink.
Overall imports of paint from the leading suppliers amounted to about $25 million in the first nine months of 1991. This compares with $38 million in the corresponding period of 1990 and some of the major suppliers of paint, including the UK and the USA, have seen their sales to India under some pressure in 1991.
The downturn in imports was not surprising
