Hugo Paemen: EU ambassador to the United States.(Interview)

Ambassador Hugo Paemen, head of the European Commission delegation office in Washington, describes trade relations between the European Union and the US as the global trading community's most interdependent and the most diversified relationship. He also believes that it is the most complex as it is not confined to trade and investment, but encompasses many other issues, such as domestic security. He is in favor of a new round of millenium trade talks, although the presence of the World Trade Organization has reduced the need of multilateral negotiations.
