The local SOCIETE ANONYME MAROCAINE DE L'INDUSTRIE DU RAFFINAGE (SAMIR) presently operates an oil refinery with an installed production capacity of 136,000 barrels per day at Mohammedia, 70 kms south of Rabat, Morocco. The plant in question was ravaged in November 2002 by a fire which brought it to an almost standstill resulting in the resumption of full production in 2003.
