One would have imagined that the release the Israel diamond industry trade figures for the month of May would have greeted with fervent enthusiasm. Net polished diamond exports skyrocketed 45 percent, when compared with May last year, closing out at $572 million. In the first five months of the year, polished diamond exports totaled $2.3 billion, 34 percent more than in the corresponding period in 1999.
