Citing personal reasons, Director Dwight Nissen resigned from the GVEA Board at its monthly meeting on October 23.

In his letter of resignation, Nissen thanked his fellow board members, management, and staff. "It was an honor and a pleasure working with the Board of GVEA, its management team, and the employees, and being able to serve the GVEA members of District 6," he said.

Nissen has represented GVEA members along the Richardson Highway south of the Salcha River to Ft. Greely since 1984. He also served on the electric utility statewide association, the Alaska Power Association since 1985, and served as its president from 2000 to 2005. Nissen is credited with working to bring utilities together by listening to concerns and gathering input from throughout the utility family.

"This Board of Directors deeply appreciates Dwight's 22 years of outstanding service," said Board Chairman Bill Nordmark. "His vision, leadership, and commitment have advanced the interests of GVEA and its members."

In its resolution commending Nissen, the GVEA Board noted his "unquestionable ethical standards earning respect from all of those who have worked with him."

A retired schoolteacher, Nissen has been very active in the Delta Junction community where he lives with his wife, Janize. The Nissens now plan on spending more time with family in the Lower 48 and at their condo in South Dakota.
