How Do I Read the Fine Print in Broadband Contracts?

* From  Date: Thursday, February 15 2007

If you are thinking about getting high speed Internet service over your phone lines (DSL),  make sure you read the fine print of the contract.

  • Find out the time commitment. A shorter time commitment is generally better, and many providers charge if you decide to end your service early.
  • Check to make sure the provider doesn't have any restrictions on the amount of data you can receive or send each month.
  • If you are planning to hook up a server to your broadband connection, beware: Many contracts forbid the use of servers.
