ICL enhances ISS30 retail software offering to accelerate delivery.

DALLAS --(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Jan. 16, 1995 -- Fujitsu-ICL Systems Inc. (FJ-ICL) today announced an agreement in principle with Dataserv Inc. (Dataserv), a wholly owned subsidiary of BellSouth Corp., to purchase certain software products and skill sets, within their Retail Applications Division, to further

enhance the FJ-ICL retail software architecture offering known as ISS30.

This agreement will more aggressively provide retailers with tailored point-of-sale software, faster and more seamlessly.

Already, FJ-ICL is incorporating the Dataserv Surpass Plus Software and other enhancements, into the ISS30 point-of-sale software solution. This process is further expanding the open system software solution, providing the ability to operate on multiple point-of-sale hardware platforms and across multiple operating systems and networks.

"By tapping the Dataserv software skill base and combining with our current team of developers, we are able to more quickly provide retailers with the open systems architecture needed through ISS30," said Rod Powell, president of Fujitsu-ICL Systems Inc. "This step will enable us to enhance the existing ISS30 functionality by 30-40 percent."

ISS30 has 4th generation language (4GL) programming, a relational database management system (RDBMS), a complete systems security and multiple currencies and languages. These capabilities enable ISS30 to specifically address retailer's system and software needs worldwide.

"We will be the first to globally deliver a very full-functional open architecture to retailers," said Joe Pisano, vice president, general retail systems, Fujitsu-ICL Systems Inc. "Retailers in Europe will be able to use the same ISS30 software, specifically supporting their technical needs by selecting and adding specific programming objectives."

In addition, the software offers various transaction types including sales, returns exchanges and layaways, all with multiple payment types such as gift certificates, credit cards, credit memos, money orders, bank checks, travelers checks, coupons and cash.

"This action better serves the general merchandise retail market and can help us bring programming options and improved productivity tools to market faster," said Pisano. "The enhanced ISS30 not only simplifies in-store programming changes, it provides faster report analysis and offers programs and system options to improve employee productivity, thus improving customer service."

Gary Mainer, Dataserv president and CEO, said, "We're pleased to play a role in constructing this strategic fit between Dataserv's Retail Applications division and Fujitsu-ICL. Our process involved funding the very best fit of our customers and our employees, creating a great opportunity for both, and we sincerely believe we have done that."
