BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 6, 1997--

- InfoModelers' newest database design tool uncovers poor

database design and protects against project failure in

databases designed using ERwin and other modeling tools -

InfoModelers Inc., the leading developer of cutting-edge database design tools employing Object Role Modeling, today announced The InfoModeler Challenge.

This Internet-based challenge encourages users of competitive products including Logic Works' ERwin, to download InfoModelers' newest databases design tool, InfoModeler 3.1, from the company's website at www.infomodelers.com to test their data models. The purpose of the challenge is to offer data modelers a quick and easy way to reveal undetected design errors which result in poor database performance, high administration costs, end user frustration and potential project failure.

From now until Oct. 1, data modelers are invited to generate an .ERX file of a model designed in ERwin or another data modeling tool with .ERX export and use InfoModele(R) 3.1 to diagnose the schema of the underlying database. After testing the model, contestants e-mail the error report to InfoModelers. The modeler who discovers the greatest total number of errors in one or more .ERX files will win a free data modeling training class sponsored by InfoModelers and a Premium Technical Support package -- a combined value of $2190.

According to Tom Van Horn, president and CEO of InfoModelers, The InfoModeler Challenge was created to illustrate the paramount importance of quality database designs, an element often undervalued until a failed database is autopsied. "When our customers use InfoModeler to import and test database schema generated with other modeling tools, they find over 90% of the models are fraught with design errors that could have been detected by and corrected with InfoModeler. Other tools, like ERwin, simply don't produce bullet-proof models."

In addition to proficiently identifying errors in existing databases designed with other tools, InfoModeler 3.1 builds databases and data warehouses quickly and correctly the first time. Unlike ERwin, InfoModeler puts every model through an extensive error-checking process before generating a database schema, guaranteeing a correctly normalized schema every time.
