NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AIIM--April 15, 1997--Kofax Image Products Tuesday announced that it has joined forces with Adobe Systems Inc. and DOCUMENTUM to integrate Ascent Capture for Web-based document management.
This new paper-to-Web solution allows customers to use the Internet and corporate intranets to easily search, view and manage documents online.
"Employing the Web to manage paper documents is the next step in the evolution of document management," said Kevin Drum, Kofax vice president of marketing. "Ascent Capture provides the most effective capture and release process available for the paper-to-Web solution and its flexibility and scalability accommodates the varying needs of medium to high-volume users."
Ascent Capture offers advanced document capture functions such as batch scanning, image processing, optical character recognition and indexing in a cost-effective capture solution for paper-to-Web document management. An integrated solution using Adobe Acrobat Capture 2.0 software and Kofax Ascent Capture provides the key solution for publishing large volumes of documents to the Web. DOCUMENTUM's Enterprise Document Management System (EDMS) provides the critical document management, Web search and retrieve, and document routing applications.
"The integration between Acrobat Capture, EDMS and Ascent Capture enables customers to use the Web to manage nearly all their critical business documents, including those from both paper and electronic sources," said John Kunze, vice president and general manager of Adobe's Internet products. "As a result, customers can improve access to a much wider variety of content, helping them to reduce the time and costs associated with finding and distributing the information needed to run their businesses."
Adobe Acrobat Capture 2.0 software uses a combination of OCR, and font and page recognition to convert scanned paper documents into small, fully searchable Portable Document Format (PDF) files that can be viewed directly inside popular Web browsers. Acrobat Capture software maintains all the formatting and graphic elements of the paper original, including tables, photographs and handwritten notes or signatures.
The Ascent Capture release modureamline the conversion of large volumes of paper documents to PDF format prior to storing them into EDMS and publishing them to the Web. The Ascent Capture release module for EDMS is now available and is free of charge with the purchase of Ascent Capture 2.0. Acrobat Capture 2.0 software must be purchased separately.
"The integration of technology from Kofax, Adobe and DOCUMENTUM is an important piece of our partnering strategy. Working with the recognized leaders to deliver integrated solutions ensures data and document integrity for mission-critical applications required by DOCUMENTUM clients in industries such as pharmaceuticals and manufacturing," said Robert Reid, DOCUMENTUM vice president of industry solutions group. "Paper-to-Web solutions enable more efficient management of electronic and paper documents and increase client productivity."
The combination of Kofax Ascent Capture and DOCUMENTUM EDMS is already in production at more than ten customer sites. The integration of Ascent Capture, Acrobat Capture, and EDMS is in pilot testing at several sites, including an internal production application at DOCUMENTUM's Pleasanton, Calif., headquarters.
