TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 21, 1998--Developers of communication products now can integrate new or existing digital designs into their mixed-signal design environments with the new hardware description language (HDL) co-design in the HP Advanced Design System electronic-design automation (EDA) software. The announcement was made here at DSP World, a trade show focusing on digital signal-processing (DSP) technologies.
The HP Advanced Design System, developed by the HP EEsof Division, is a fully integrated solution for end-to-end communications signal-path design. The addition of HDL co-design extends the full range of communications-system-design capabilities offered by the tool to include design of VHDL(1) and Verilog, along with analog, RF and DSP technologies -- all in one environment.
"The addition of VHDL and Verilog HDL co-design capabilities to the HP Advanced Design System is part of HP's strategy to provide a complete solution for communications and multimedia design," said Jake Egbert, HP EEsof general manager. "The ability to design all portions of the communications product in one integrated environment eliminates design errors resulting from disconnects among digital-, DSP-, RF- and analog-design teams. In addition, it improves these teams' productivity and time to market for communications products." -0-
Additional benefits of the new HDL co-design capability that
reduce costs and speed time-to-market include the abilities to do the
following:
-- incorporate into communications product designs new or
existing intellectual property (IP) from previous product
generations or external vendors; and
-- integrate HDL output from HP DSP synthesis into a system
simulation in order to verify functionality and performance
of the entire system before implementation.

U.S. PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
HDL co-design capability is scheduled to be available worldwide for the HP Advanced Design System in January 1999. Pricing for the HP Advanced Design System begins at $15,000.
