SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--January 5, 1999--OpenCon Systems, Inc. (OCS), a leading Network Management and Software Communications firm, today announced that its has chosen Virata's Integrated Software on Silicon (ISOS) for its next generation of Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL)
OpenCon will use Virata's Helium chip and software solution in its new line of Access Technology Products. ADSL technology provides high-speed access to businesses and consumers using existing telephone lines.
According to Oleg Logvinov, Director, Product Development for OCS, "We chose the Virata solution for the high level of chip and software integration it delivers. Helium provides a complete multiple endpoint solution suitable for our development of a broad line of ADSL access service gateway equipment. Virata's integrated offering will enable us to develop and send product to market faster than other solutions out there."
OCS will use Virata's Helium ISOS solution for its new family of line card and gateway Access Technology Products. Helium, a member of the ATOM family, is a low-cost, phy-neutral chip that provides high-speed access capability for multiple-user endpoint devices such as modems, gateway devices, and line cards for channel banks and DSLAMs. The ATOM family of devices integrates Virata's hardware with its software components, including the real-time operating system ATMOS(TM) and a range of signalling, routing/bridging and management protocol stacks.
"We evaluated a number of vendors, but none provided a complete solution like Virata," said Charles Li, Senior Director, Access Technology Products for OCS. "Their engineers were able to tell us how Helium would perform in various environments and product designs. Virata's offering is proven and complete, and we feel extremely confident this solution is the best."
Martin Jackson, Virata's CTO, said, "We aim to provide our licensees with the best all round solution in the marketplace, and you cannot do that by getting your chip from one place, software from another and piecing them together. That is why we've developed our unique ISOS offering of silicon and software for high-speed Internet access."
