STOCKHOLM--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 27, 2001
Enea Data AB (SAXESS: ENEA) announced today the acquisition of the British database company Polyhedra Plc. Enea Data has purchased Polyhedra to support the OSE(TM) realtime operating system (RTOS) from Enea
The integration of Polyhedra's embedded database processing technology to OSE accelerates Enea OSE Systems' ability to offer networking and telecommunications customers an end-to-end, platform-level environment.
"Enea OSE Systems position in the market is strengthened by the direct added value this database technology brings to future versions of the OSE RTOS", says Ola Berglund, CEO of Enea Data.
Traditional relational databases are a well-established function of the enterprise-wide computing environment, however the needs and requirements of databases in embedded systems requires a more complex technology that conventional databases and tools are unable to deliver. Polyhedra is designed with the needs of reliable and predictable embedded systems in mind, with a special focus on communication systems.
"No other single software supplier today can offer such a powerful, out-of-the-box platform for the applications in this space," says Berglund. "OSE customers that build high availability systems require this capability but have not been able to acquire the optimal solution until now. While we will continue to offer the complete Polyhedra product offering to the market, we will now be able to focus in specific areas of the high availability problem set to offer a combined software platform for tomorrow's applications."
For business- and mission-critical embedded database applications requiring event-driven realtime SQL database processing and fault tolerance for continuous availability, Polyhedra offers the perfect match. The active, object-relational architecture allows embedded database application developers to produce high-speed fault tolerant, heterogeneous client-server applications on over 15 operating and computing platforms.
"We've worked with Enea OSE Systems on a number of projects," says Dave Stoneham, President, Polyhedra Plc. "Through our collaborative endeavors, we've seen first-hand the effectiveness of OSE; it seems a natural fit to combine our two best-of-breed technologies to create one, powerful solution."
