ATCA Booth #1402
WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 5, 2002
Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), a leading systems integrator of communications and weather data processing and display systems for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA),
Jim Proctor, vice president and general manager of Integrated Information and Communications Systems Programs for Harris Government Communications Systems Division (GCSD), will lead discussions about ATC communications requirements during one of the conference breakout sessions. Harris is playing key roles in many FAA communications and weather programs, including FAA Telecommunications Infrastructure (FTI), Voice Switching and Control System (VSCS), and Weather and Radar Processor (WARP), among others.
"Harris and the FAA have had a strong, ongoing partnership for more than two decades, and we look forward to providing the aviation community with advanced communications solutions that enhance the safety and security of our airways now and for the future," said Proctor.
Harris is participating in the competition for the FAA's Next Generation Air/Ground Communications (NEXCOM) program, which will enable the FAA to expand the use of its existing Air Traffic Control (ATC) air/ground communications channels. Dr. Tom Kabaservice, Harris senior systems engineer, will make a presentation to conference attendees on the NEXCOM program and the VHF Digital Link (VDL) Mode 3 technology that provides an expanded, simultaneous voice and data transmission capability between controllers and pilots. In addition, Mark Graham, Harris FTI Program chief system engineer, will present the program's major plans and system architecture.
In addition to being recognized by ATCA as a Grand Benefactor - the association's highest-level of corporate sponsorship - Harris will present a check to ATCA's Buckingham Memorial Scholarship Fund during the conference. Scholarships are awarded annually to children of air traffic control specialists, students enrolled in programs leading to a degree in aviation-related fields, and full-time aviation career employees engaged in advanced studies.
The Harris ATCA booth, #1402, will offer live demonstrations of the Harris WARP en-route weather system, and the OASIS weather flight planning tool for the General Aviation community, as well as demonstrations of some of the company's new R&D initiatives for aviation technology.
