Twitter Searches to a Feedreader
Saving yourself time using a feedreader instead of searching in Twitter or Topsy.
If you go to Search.Twitter.com, you'll see I've inserted a hashtag term in the search. I'm using Sales Rescue Team as an example.
You can then take that search and insert it into your Google Reader by clicking on the RSS icon to the right side (or whatever program you like) with this link. You now have an instant update of what's happening around that term.
But, what if the search tool you prefer doesn’t offer a feed link? As an example, jump to Topsy.com where they do not yet offer a RSS feed.
Here are the steps to keep your searches in a feedreader.
Go to Topsy, enter your term (with quote marks around it if it has to stay very specific).
Copy that URL from the browser address bar.
Now, go to Feedbeater, a simple and powerful service that converts any URL into a feed link. Copy and paste the Topsy search string URL and insert it here in FeedBeater.
Insert the Feedbeater result into your RSS reader
You’re done. You now have one place where you can read the online searches that matter most to you.
Bonus tool that I mentioned last week as well: FeedFlipper. This is a new tool to convert an iTunes podcast into a format that your RSS reader can read and then play. I don’t always have my iPod with me (my six year old has it more often!), so this new tool is terrific.
Feed Flipper is a free alternative to iTunes which converts an audio iTunes podcast into an RSS 2.0 XML feed. The resulting URL (the Feed Flipper URL + your iTunes podcast URL) is then available to be subscribed to directly into your RSS feed reader of choice for ongoing podcast delivery.
Only two steps:
Copy the base URL, insert it here at Feed Flipper:
Once your URL has been created, copy and paste it into your RSS reader as a subscription. That's all there is to it.
