Are Keyword Meta Tags Still Used?

Apparently not by Google according to Matt Cutts!

More
Apparently not by Google! The keyword meta tag is a string of keywords placed in the HTML of your site header - usually right below the title tag. In you use a point, click, and build website, you will usually just have a form to fill in your meta keywords. Over the years there has been a lot of confusion about how, where, and if the keyword meta tags are used. Here is a very short and to the point Video by Google's Matt Cutts who talks about keyword meta tag. Mr. Cutts says that Google does not use the keyword meta tag at all any longer in there core search product however Google may use them in 'search appliances'. What that means is that if you are building your home business website to rank well on Google, you don't need to give much thought to the keywords meta tag. However, don't confuse the meta keyword tag with actual keywords used on your site. Do give your careful consideration to the keywords used in the actual text on your site. I can much say with much certainty that Google does indeed use your site text keywords in judging what your web site is all about.
