TruSOLUTIONS, based here, today announced the introduction of their 1U tall Pentium III(R) processor based rackmount server platform, the world's smallest rackmount server utilizing hot-swap disk drives.
The product, to be sold under the name TruSERVER 1U-23, includes an Intel Pentium III processor with varying speed sizes available, up to 2GB of memory, two 18GB removable hot-swap SCSI disk drives, one 10/100 Ethernet port, video with 2MB of graphics memory, a CD-ROM drive , and a floppy disk drive. There is an option for gigabit ethernet or a second 10/100 ethernet port and an option for 9GB drives.
The TruSERVER 1U-23 will be available with Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Redhat Linux, or TurboLinux pre-loaded. The 1U server is designed for EIA-310 19-inch racks which are predominant in Internet and corporate data centers. The 1U form factor is only 1.75 inches tall allowing over 40 servers to be accommodated in a single seven foot rack; making this system ideal for installation into data centers where space is at a premium.
"Our goal is to provide rackmount server solutions for Internet Service Providers and Application Service Providers," stated Dan Trudo, chief executive officer of TruSOLUTIONS. "In order to be successful, TruSOLUTIONS has to aggressively develop leading technologies and products that will directly impact Internet infrastructure applications."
The 1U-23 uses Intel's L440GX+ motherboard. "Utilizing Intel's L440GX+ board featuring the Pentium III processor, has enabled TruSOLUTIONS to achieve a significant increase in rack density," said Rick Herrmann, Business Development Engineer with Intel's Enterprise and Server Group. "We expect low profile rackmount servers to comprise a vital component of the fast growing Internet server market."
The TruSERVER 1U-23 platform will be utilized as an OEM platform. TruSOLUTIONS has built their business by providing customized servers for OEMs. Many OEM customers are software companies desiring a hardware solution. The OEM customization includes building a specific hardware configuration, providing custom colors and logos, loading the OEM customer's OS and application, performing a complete test and burn-in, and shipping directly to the installation location. TruSOLUTIONS intends to continue to offer this service to OEM customers using the new 1U platform.
