CARY, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 1, 2001

Dr. Jim Goodnight, president and CEO of SAS Institute boosted the annual UNC-TV FESTIVAL fundraising campaign last night, making a $100,000 matching pledge to UNC-TV.

Goodnight's matching

pledge, coupled with donations from callers across the state totaled $222,000 -- the highest total ever collected in one night for UNC-TV.

"We all had a great time supporting public television tonight," said David Tyree, a SAS employee volunteer. "Dr. Goodnight's call excited all of us and energized viewers as well - the phones were ringing off the hook after the announcement."

Nearly 50 SAS employee volunteers fielded pledge calls in the UNC-TV studios during the night. Dr. Goodnight called in at 8:45 p.m. and pledged to match all contributions after 9:00 up to $100,000. This marks the third year that Goodnight has called UNC-TV on "SAS Night."

Tom Howe, director and general manager of WUNC-TV, said Goodnight's pledge sends a strong statement to all North Carolinians.

"We greatly appreciate that SAS has again made the largest contribution to UNC's FESTIVAL campaign," said Howe. "As one of the world's leading information companies, SAS continues its support of our efforts to bring educational and cultural enrichment to the citizens of North Carolina."

The UNC-TV FESTIVAL continues through April 1, 2001 in an effort to meet their fundraising goal of $3.5 million.
