A number of software vendors, including 4th Dimension Software, Computer Associates and LEGENT, are developing network management packages that feature the automated operations functions traditionally associated with mainframe computers. As companies migrate from mainframe computers to client/server systems, many IS officials want the same automated tape backup, data security and other functions they came to expect from their mainframe systems. 4th Dimension is responding to this need with its Enterprise ControlStation, a central control that offers automated operations functions for DEC VA
