"S/390 customers will also be able to take advantage of TurboLinux's TurboCluster Server and enFuzion products which provide platform independent high availability traffic management and distributed processing capabilities."
"We are delighted that TurboLinux has announced a TurboLinux distribution of Linux for S/390," said Rich Lechner, vice president, e-business, Enterprise Systems Group. "TurboLinux enjoys a reputation for technical excellence, investment protection, and bringing the industry new ways to leverage Linux. TurboLinux's focus on high end computing now includes the one of the industry's most powerful and reliable server platforms, the IBM S/390."
TurboLinux for S/390 enterprise servers offers customers many benefits.
Customers can consolidate their systems by shifting server processes to the S/390 and reduce the number of their physical servers while lowering maintenance costs and providing more flexibility.
TurboLinux for S/390 also brings customers powerful Open Source software solutions such as samba, apache, ftp, BIND, and DNS to provide standards-based Internet and internal network access to legacy data on the S/390. Mainframe users also gain access to the thousands of applications being written for Linux.
Major software vendors such as BMC, Computer Associates and Software AG are supporting the effort with applications available for Linux for S/390.
In addition, IBM has already announced plans to support key middleware software on Linux for S/390, including DB2 Universal Database, DB2 and IMS Connect, WebSphere Application Server, Tivoli end point support and Java.
Customers who want full technical support and middleware integration for mission-critical applications will be able to take advantage of support services offered by IBM Global Services and TurboLinux.
